Jamie Lenman: One Night Stand (Early Show)
Jamie Lenman possesses one of the most intriguing, expectation-defying back catalogs in underground rock music. Never content to stick to the formula, he has spent two decades twisting it into new shapes, with each release embodying a fresh musical and conceptual frame.
This very special one-night stand sees him reimagine his catalog for piano and voice across two shows - one with doors at 4:30pm, one at 8:30pm, both featuring a 90 minute set starting 30 minutes after doors - in the atmospheric surroundings of St John’s church in Waterloo.
In the words of the man himself:
“I’ve been trying to get a piano show off the ground since I did The Remembrance on Shuffle – it was a guy called Richard Whennell who did the keys on that, he’s just the most fantastic player and I wanted more. He was my music teacher at college and we’ve been pals ever since, so this is my chance to clothe myself in a bit more of his magic…like the sun reflecting off the moon.
Everyone is so thrilled we managed to bag St John’s in Waterloo – I used to queue for the bus every day and just stare at it, wondering what it was like inside. I can’t think of a better place to stage these concerts, or for a better way to round off these last two years – and indeed this stage of my career. There’s no tour, it’s just a One Night Stand. It’s going to be a unique event and I can’t wait.”
